One of the main
functions of the Information Commissioner and his staff is to ensure
that the organisations that are processing data are doing so in
line with the obligations that are placed upon them by the various
pieces of legislation such as: the Data Protection Act, Freedom
of Information Act, and the Telecommunications Regulations. When
looking at these processes the Information Commissioner and his
staff will assess whether the processing is compliant with the provisions
contained within the particular piece of legislation.
The Information Commissioner and his staff produce guidance and
other information that they hope will assist organisations achieve
compliance, for the benefit of both individuals and organisations.
